"Have you always used that same brand of sketchbook? Well, you haven't lived until you've gone recyclable!" With so many types of sketchbooks out there (spiral bound, super-tiny, landscape, watercolor, etc.), mid-toned paper sketchbooks offer a whole new & unique experience to sketching.

curious monk
I added this old man sketch because it is what actually inspired the style for the younger character. I hope to render and color him fully later on, I just have some other things in mind first. As for the youngster, I really enjoy a style of simple shapes that incorporate line design. I wanted this monk like character, being young and all, to be in a scene that shows some of his curiosity and has the mood of mystery. This drawing surely wouldn't have been the same on white paper. The mid-tone was actually helpful in visualizing the scenario.
